A technical delegation led by Malta Enterprise visited Ghana to discuss opportunities for trade and investment through a number of projects which included the partnering of stakeholders from Malta and Ghana in different areas, focusing on education and pharmaceuticals, according to a Malta Enterprise press release.
Representatives from Trade Malta, Transport Malta, the Malta Medicines Authority, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, the High Commission of Malta in Ghana and the designated Ambassador to the African Union were also attending the meeting.
Furthermore, discussions also included models that could be adopted whereby Malta and Ghana would collaborate in carrying out upskilling programmes and minimise skills gaps in both countries, the press release says.
“The role Malta could play in Ghana’s drive towards becoming an export-driven economy was also looked into, with the delegation and its counterparts in Ghana proposing ways how Malta can become a partner in logistics, standardisation, certification, training, and investment driver in the region,” the Malta Enterprise press release says.
With a wide array of possible partnerships on the table such as support mechanisms for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), trade route connections and institutional capacity building, the delegation identified a number of core action points which will serve as a foundation towards a joint strategic programme.
Moreover, the delegation had the opportunity to carry out a number of visits at Tema harbour and leading companies in pharmaceuticals and insurance.
The two countries also signed up a memorandum of understanding between Malta Enterprise and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre.
